Alwareness - July topic - Consciousness

The main bulk of still existing writings about The Goddess who was once worshipped over the whole of the planet comes mostly from ancient Mesopotamian hieroglyphic tablets. We know of Her worship because of the numerous effigies of Her found internationally. In Mesopotamian She was known as Ishtar. She is called Ashtoreth or Asherah in the bible. Aphrodite is one of many Greek names for Her. Another title was Holy Virgin.
The term virgin had nothing to do with having physical/carnal knowledge of men. It meant unmarried, as in not having taken part in a legal, civil ceremony which binds a woman to one man.
The function of the Holy Virgins was, quote from Barbara Walkers 'Women's Encyclopedia Of Myths And Secrets' to dispense the Mother's grace through sexual worship, to heal, to prophesy, to perform sacred dances; to wail for the dead.
To re emphasize a point I will be making again. Up until the advent and bloody destruction that was the trade mark of the followers of the One Male God, our sexuality, our ability to have pleasure and to create pleasure with others was known to be sacred. This was what set us apart from animals, this was the aspect of us that reflected, showed our closeness and connection to the divine. Unlike the animals around us our sexuality was not bound or tied to a season or a cycle. It was ever present, ever accessible.
Our brains/intellect/intelligence/logic is fallible. Clearly available in vastly differing quantities and quality from person to person. It cannot be relied upon as an indicator for peoples as a whole. Our sexuality however, our connection to, dependence on, need to express and experience pleasure is totally universal, it binds all humanity with very little exception.
What the followers of the One Male God have done is to disconnect us from and to portray our sexuality as wicked and threatening. Our view of sex has been distorted. Some forms of sexual expression notably anything that is just about pleasure rather than procreation is portrayed as evil and blasphemous. The One Male God churches have regulated every part of our sex lives to separate us with guilt and fear from our sexual natures.
Our true conscious is completely bound and intertwined with our sexuality. Is there anyone born in the last 400 years who has free, untroubled access to the sexual part of their nature? I say no.
The largest single group on the planet at this moment in time are women from around 45 upwards. Most of those women are post menopausal. This is the time when women can have worry free sex. This is the time when achieving an orgasm is easiest. Most women by the time they get to this age feel they are done with sex. Most have no interest in expressing their sexuality unless they think they look decades younger or are a the tool of a man's sexual demands.
How many women listening are disgusted, offended, shocked by the idea of female masturbation? How many of the women listening avoid touching and think their genitals are disgusting, ugly, smelly, dirty? How many women have had some kind of surgery or mutilation that cut through or across the sexual zones of their bodies. Breast surgery, genital mutilation or corrections or nose jobs which mean no sense of smell? How many of the women listening would feel comfortable directing their sexual partner, taking control of the act? I wonder if there are men listening who find that idea offensive? I do not mean indulging in fantasies or playing games or S&M. Being told by a woman what to do in bed or whatever location you might choose. Women directing their experience of sexual pleasure.
To be all aware and conscious is to come to an acceptance and understanding of ones own sexual nature and to connect our intellect and intelligence to our individual sexuality.
To be (all) aware and conscious is to accept the shape, form, failures and triumphs of our bodies, to celebrate the body's ability to give and receive pleasure and to focus on finding ways to make the giving and receiving of pleasure on all levels the core of our reason from being.
That in my opinion is true consciousness. A fully alert, sexually focussed, pleasure seeking and giving two legged guardian of the planet.

Alwareness May; sleep, strength and energy

For a number years, as you have been hearing, I've been researching our European history. Much so called knowledge and many of the things that are now taken as being obvious or incontrovertible facts are actually the moralistic inventions of monotheistic white men. They have been stamped into our consciousness usually with patronising repetition and violence. It is by looking at the things that are left out of our histories or described around, or disparagingly when observed in 'primitive peoples'. The little inconsistencies that are found give ideas about how it really was before these men decided we needed to be brought to heel.

In the case of sleep; for centuries it was ridiculous to think of sleeping in one solid stretch, two sometimes three sleep periods, with an interval was the norm. By the time this was actually being documented in letters and journals the concept was going out of fashion and it had already changed who knows how many times? By the time we get to hear about it the 'tussenperiod', also called the watch was often down to an hour. It was recommended to use it for prayer, sometimes for writing, or sex, or even for visiting the neighbours. The idea of two sleeps dwindled in the late 17th century, by 1920 it was practically obsolete.

I looked up sleep – because I disagreed with the interpretation given in one of the programs. In my Longman dictionary of the English language; there are 2 meanings for sleep, each has more than 4 sub headings. The first is “The natural periodic suspension of consciousness that is essential for the physical and mental well being of higher animals”. Oftwel; De natuurlijke periodieke opschorting van bewustzijn die essentieel is voor het lichamelijk en geestelijk welzijn van de hogere dieren

That in my humble opinion perfectly describes our subject matter. There are no value judgements in this interpretation, it doesn't say good, it doesn't say a number of hours, or mention rest

Natural, periodic, suspension of consciousness, essential, physical, mental, well being, higher animals.

Sleeping, is great. I love it, my mattress is the most expensive single item I paid for using my own money!

Many years ago I read some books supposedly by a channelled being named Seth, much of what he said about sleep and sleeping I immediately took on board and had many years, until the birth of my daughter following that method.

Seth recommended 2 sleep periods of maximum 3 hours. I found that pretty easy to get into, I think I naturally awake after about four hours sleep which is normal. I rarely have trouble sleeping and can function for at least four hours on a 20 min power nap. If I stop within four hours and can then have another 20 minute power nap – with no disturbance. I can carry on for another four hours. This is how I partied and worked full time for years. I would often get home with just an hour before having to leave for work, 20 mins power nap, shower, dress, out the door. At mid morning I would have another power nap, one at lunch time and one in the mid afternoon. I didn't smoke cigarettes so with a short lunch break and somewhere to be undisturbed, I was still working slightly longer days than most of my colleagues in most of the jobs I did.

Having a child, living in the U.S. where they are very narrow minded about how to do things, then moving here and finding the same kind of work culture. "We want you to behave normally at work and we will decide what your normal is" sent my wonderful life/sleep pattern down the drain.

"Living the 'right kind of healthy life' is the 21st century goal. The pillars sold for determining health are: diet, exercise and sleep. People learn about exercise and nutrition ... most people know nothing about sleep certainly not their own.

In 2006 Forbes magazine estimated the sleep industry or racket as they called it made just under €18bn a year in the states. They noted that part of that was an increase in the use of slaap middelen 60% in the previous 5 years – we invest in beds, duvets mattresses, pillows, sleep centres, herbal tinctures, hypnotherapy, and sleeping tablets. The only things we worry about more is sex lives and body size.

How often instead of accepting and enjoying the previous night's rest, do we attempt to tame, get more, less, curse, for not behaving as we wish or not arriving as we think it should. Did we sleep well enough, long enough, deeply enough? People dwell on bad nights, bad dreams, chase cures and new sleep aids. Then when all attempts at control fail, we conquer sleep with pills, potions and prescriptions.”

Sleep deprivation is a recognized form of torture. How often do we inflict that torture upon ourselves because of how we have decided our sleep should be.

The next few paragraphs were about how the use of Benzodiazepines in the Netherlands

Yet again a little scratching at the surface of our topics for the month brings us back to an awareness that we live under a system that want us ignorant, disconnected from our bodies and malleable, while telling us the whole time it is offering freedom.

The most important thing as always is to find our what your personal sleep pattern is, how much sleep you need and what's the best way to get it. Learning how you work is the best way to get energy and strength. Honour your individuality. All seemingly pretty impossible in a system designed around a 'working week' designed to benefit capitalism rather than humanism

Peace

I have a postcard in my kitchen that says it and yes, I do believe 'world peace' is possible. I fear that anyone who doesn't believe in it's possibility is a contributing factor to it not occurring. If you can conceive it, you can achieve it!
Obviously capitalism and monotheism with their oppression of individuality and their twisted suppression of sexuality in any but a most debased form as the major foundations of war would have to be at least 'adjusted' (preferably eradicated). Hopefully with an education system designed to increase people's knowledge, self suffiency and confidence both notions would be viewed as ridiculous.
Dismantling the current political system is essential and instituting a system where everyone accepts that at least one day every week from every individual is a necessary requirement for democracy. This would I believe create a true government for the people, because it would be by the people. There would be probably the same number of full time politicians but, not the lobbyists, other vultures and leeches.
However world peace would not mean the eradication of conflict, aggression, violence or murder. With a real education system rape, child abuse and other deviant behaviours would, like all of the above, be a rarity. Unfortunately I don't believe you can cure pedophilia and I advocate killing any pedophiles who act on their urges. I see that as self defense rather than violence - Shin Yatomi quote - having said that it is of the utmost importance that this trait in humans is recognized and instead of being ignored, ostracized and stigmatized, ways need to be found to support those who recognize those desires in themselves to avoid acting upon them.
These measures I believe would lead to/achieve zero propagation of war.
In a peaceful society violence would be individualised, in general the concept of people who don't know each other trying to kill each other would be absurd.
Whether the warmongers, fearful, lazy, ignor(e)ant and stupid will ever allow us the time, space, means to set any of this in motion depends on our courage, probably willingness to die for peace and most importantly our ability to come together in spite of the many minor disagreements there are between us.

A point about addicitions - Alwareness

This is my paraphrasing/understanding of part of “The Great Caliban” The struggle against the Rebel Body” from Caliban and The Witch; Women, The Body and Primitive Accumulation by Silvia Federici - in the context of Addictions – Alwareness April subject

We are talking this month about addiction. The last thing I said last week was that it is important to see if there is anything you can love about your addiction. I also said that addictions are a natural and normal part of being human, that every individual has addictions.

Some are not termed addictions because they forward the aims of capitalist society – like our addictions to oranges, tea, sugar, coffee and chocolate – I mention those particularly because they are based on slave labour. Slavery is OK if it is to provide the cherry on the top of an excellent life style for us in Europe and The States but it is not OK when it is your body fighting against your rational mind. - Verslaving – the Dutch term for addiction, literally to be enslaved.

I am a humanist. I believe that the reason we are alive is to learn and grow, to experience, to be. Learning requires access to knowledge and an awareness of what went before to avoid repeatedly inventing the wheel!

In having an 'awareness' of went before, it is important to understand that history is written by the winners. All history is from the point of view of the people who conceived the world the way it is today but also initiated and carried through their plans by the use of ubiquitous violence. It is in truth HIS story there is no placement of HER within it.

Capitalist society can only exist by exploitation, a small group of people are allowed and encouraged to lead lives of exploration, learning, growth and enjoyment at the expense of a much larger group denied all of the above. That larger group have to be applied to creating profit for the smaller group. A capitalist society can never be humanistic. There is room for an adapted form of capitalism within a humanistic society. Because the desire to make profit and be one up or better than ones fellows is also an inherent human trait.

“The human body … was the first machine developed by capitalism.” By creating a hierarchical relations between the mind and body 16th and 17th century philosophers developed the theoretical basis for the 'Mechanical body' philosophy essential to the creation of a functioning capitalist society. The body is a machine, the mind must exert will over the machine to focus on serving god and the state. This brilliant idea was formulated by men such as Descartes and Hobbes, these were men who for a start firmly believed that the first woman was created from the rib of a man.

This notion of the body as an engine that needs to subdued, controlled, constrained ordered and subjugated to the will is very new. A battle was fought for over three hundred years in words and concepts, supported by the gratuitous use of violence to embed this idea into our psyche. The war of words began in philosophical texts at end of the 15th century “but only in the second half of the 19th century can we glimpse the (ideal) ...worker – temperate prudent, responsible, proud to posses a watch - that personifies the capitalist utopia.

The body machine idea could not have become a model of social behaviour without the destruction by the state of the pre-capitalist beliefs, practices and individuals whose existence contradicted the behaviour promised by the philosophy. The peak of what is called the Age of Reason which was actually an age of scepticism and methodical doubt was also the peak of a prolonged, vicious and ferocious attack on the proletariat.

The hatred across Europe in the 16th and 17th century for wage labour, with the notable exceptions of the NL and Sweden was so intense that most preferred to risk the gallows rather than submit. This we can mark by the intensification in that time of penalties, particularly those punishing crimes again property, also the introduction of bloody laws against vagabonds and huge number of executions. In England alone 72,000 people we hung by Henry VIII in the 38 years of his reign.

Up until the 16th century the body was seen as a receptacle of magical powers. “Nature was viewed as a universe of signs and signatures, marking invisible affinities that had to be deciphered, every element - herbs, plants, metals and most of all the human body hid virtues and powers..... a variety of practices were designed to appropriate and bend the secrets and powers of nature to the human will. Eradicating these practises was essential.

Francis Bacon lamented that 'Magic kills industry”. Magic is an illicit form of power 'to obtain what is wanted without labouring'. Moreover magic rested upon a conception of space and time that is totally incompatible with the capitalist work/discipline paradigm. Whether magic is real is immaterial. All pre capitalist societies have these beliefs. The revival of 'magical beliefs' is only possible today because to paraphrase Silvia Frederici, even the most devoted believer in astrology will consult the clock to check they are on time for work.
If this war had never taken place we would see our bodies as magical vessels imbued with wonder.

Most of our addictions, especially the ones we see as a problem, take us out of the mundane reality of our daily lives and into another space/mind set. If we hadn't completely taken on board the de-consecration, alienation and mechanisation of our body, how would we view the calling of a magical vessel towards an altered state?

Institutionalised green'ing'

So now, for a change I have to big up the Netherlands and The Dutch. A really clear example of one of the many reasons that I despite my continual moaning, bitching and griping about both really love the country and definitely respect and often admire the Dutch.

For the feast after the journeying P goes to the Albert Hein - the supermarket I totally loathe, with the exception of a few very choice products - she buys slagroom soesjes - choux pastries pouches filled with cream and drenched with icing sugar.

The container is a plastic egg shaped container in a card box with a plastic lid. After eating: remnant icing sugar in the bin, plastic piece torn from card and with other piece of plastic in the plastic recycling bag. The plastic recycling place is outside the supermarket - which is VERY close by - and the paper recycling for the box is at the end of the street.

Art rant

Art since the 20th century particularly in the U. S. seems to me so often to begin as a panacea for the poor/non white/uneducated, which when it spreads is appropriated by the rich/white/educated.
They quantify, strip and dissect it so they can spoon feed/teach it to themselves and their children with no understanding of the source. They theorise, pad and distort it. Then disseminate it to themselves to the exclusion of the originators.

Jazz, blues, rap, graffiti, (over sized clothes = low bum trousers!)

The greatest salesmen on earth

I have just become increasingly annoyed to the point of wishing that violence was OK by listening to yet another TED talk.
Sometimes I do indeed find them as exhilarating, moving, educational or inspiring as touted, mostly when that happens they are non American talks.
Most of what TED does as far as I can see is continue and expand the work done by Coca cola, Pepsi, MacDonald's, which is selling the most repulsive, destructive, superficial, non humanitarian culture on Earth as not only normal but necessary and good.
I live in the Netherlands, increasingly I realise that one of the reasons I feel so ambiguously towards the land, it's people and it's culture, - swinging between utter loathing, dissatisfied contentment, grudging admiration and crushing contempt - is that WASP the epitome of desirability in US culture is actually 'The Dutch or Netherlanders' -
White - ain't they just and proud of it! To this day it doesn't matter if you and your parents (or grandparents in some cases) were born here if you ain't white they do not consider you to be Dutch.
Anglo Saxon - do I need to elucidate this point really?
Protestants - oh yeah Calvin may have been a German but it was here in the Netherlands and further North in Scandinavia that his ideas founded their deepest roots and became indistinguishable from the people/cultures.
Calvinism/Protestantism represents the antithesis of my beliefs of why we are here, what our lives are for, how we should strive to live them. It is a beloved foundation of ecocide, genocide, racism, homophobia, misogyny, capitalism, chauvinism in all it's forms, white supremacism and most of the current ills of the world.
One question definitenly worth considering in terms of the protestant faith is what would Calvin have preached with a healthier diet and less illness?
Charles L Cooke shares - most as the preacher himself detailed - Calvin's illnesses in his article "Calvin's illnesses and thier relation to Christian vocation" in thebook "John Calvin and the Church: A Prism of Reform"
He was plagued with pleurisy which turned into tuberculosis with hemoptysis, intestinal parasites probably accompanied by blood loss leading to anaemia and weakness, in all likelihood thrombosed hemorrhoids, irritable bowel or colon syndrome and migraines, all exacerbated by him only eating one meal a day.
An opinionated, driven, workaholic, living in Northern Europe in constant pain would seem to be unlikely to come up with a philosophy of positivity, kindness, love and gentleness. What do you know - he didn't!
Back to the TED talks. What seems to begin as an examination or a holding up of the culture to criticism inevitably turns into self praise and aggrandizement.
Listening to the guy who made super-size me talk about 'The Greatest Movie Ever Made" which actually is just a parody of itself that changes, achieves and demonstrates nothing except how up their own arses and completely sold on themselves the makers and their culture are.
That they are allowed to make a BBC program which is ultimately another big sell of the usual crap is an example of the depths to which the BBC has sunk in it's desire to get as into the bowels of the US as they can.
They are going to examine branding, look critically at it. No what they do is tell us that it is good because it makes us feel good and it makes us feel good because they tell us it does. I do not fit a single one of their descriptions of 'how people are."
NO, I do not get pleasure from something JUST because it is expensive.
You don't have to believe me. I lost my best job ever as the editor of a fashion magazine because I couldn't understand (or stop asking) why something flimsy and synthetic was automatically better (because of the designer) than something made from a natural fibre. I'd feel the cloth and go
"Ugh, it's synthetic." I understand super expensive clothing in silk, linen, cotton, satin, etc. I can't quite get with the bamboo production process, I can totally relate to the idea of wanting a fabric made from a natural product*. We can't have hemp but we can have any (all) synthetics that women put against their skin? Does my head in.
No, I don't like coke or pepsi or any of those murky brown, sugary, fizzy drinks unless they are loaded with dark rum, lemon/lime juice and ice and then I really don't care which one it is. but people (especially Americans) usually know which brand it is.
I think there are plenty of sekts that are better than the top champagnes and a few cavas that could compete. Some of those Russian ones are to die for. While everyone else seems to insist that French Champagne is the one and only, best thing on the planet. Of course it is very likely that I have never had a 'really good' champagne.
Everything made in the US has too much sugar in for me - that super sweetness  tastes off. From the bread  to the pasta anything. I can't get over that even the savoury food is too sweet. Same with salt.
Fashion is bollox. There is no way my body is ever going to look good in 99.9% of what designers draw. Not possible, it is not the way it is taught. There is one shape, to which all fashion designs are aimed.it's ridiculous.

I have a woman’s body and not one of the acceptable standard ones! Am I gonna hate my body? Well of course I do. But not enough to starve, exercise or cut it to try and make it fit crippling minimum requirements.
Is my body a temple? Sometimes, not every day. I'm working on that.
It does seem that research would suggest that I am an anomaly.
When my daughter set up a set of experiments on taste as in the sense, rather than the aesthetic ideas. What is it? How does it work? What affects it?  The 'tests' included brands, blind testing, heat, cold, eat of the taste areas, salt, sweet, bitter, astringent, omami. Her observation, before, during and after was that the single most determining factor in taste (in her peer group) was the opinions of others. Which would tie in with what the TED people say.
But I think it has more to do with a society that covertly punishes any who do not conform. With blatant disapproval and ostracism.

Alwareness 'Love' in Englsh

Percy our awareness coach has said that love is an energy, a binding power, the basis, the source of life. I would agree that love could be called all of these things. Often it is what people feel when they describe their feelings about love.
As far as I'm concerned love is one of the most misused words and ideas. Love is used by people as an excuse to sleep with the partner of a best friend. Love is a word that some use when they beat their children of partner and it is certainly heard by many women in the sex industry as the reason their pimps exploit them.
All you need is love. No way. You can hate me, if you offer when needed a warm meal or a roof or even a conversation or some contact. Love is not really necessary except for a baby in the first weeks of life, after that even for a baby other things become much more important.
Do you really love someone if you all unknowingly poison them with refined sugars. In the NL they say that love is felt via the stomach. If I see so called children's meals in most restaurants I read at best ignorance and at worst abuse.
Is it love when men only want women who have to be perpetually hungry to be 'beautiful, women who damage their ankles, knees, hips and back by only wearing high heels. Women who have been in constant, physical pain so long they don't even feel it. No pain, no gain in the beauty stakes.
"De mantel der liefde erover' roughly translated 'spread the cloak of love over it', rather than being honest or open or risking the possibility of a disagreement. Yes, sometimes being honest or open means being open to being hurt but, in a society that deals out pain on a daily basis, whey avoid this one?
In love is Eros, which is an completely different place that loving which one can call agape.
Last week I went with a friend to pick up her four year old daughter. The daughter said to me "I love you"I had to laugh because within five minutes sheś said the same about her play group, a building her dad and then me again.
I don't want any more of that love in a world where those who love their country find that fact a good reason the murder anyone else who feels the same about another country. People who are in love with someone think they have murdered them for 'understandable' reasons. Or because people are in love they want to sign a slave contract that makes their beloved their legal possession, also known as marriage.
Last week was Valentines Day a tradition that I grew up with, although how it was celebrated in the UK in my youth is completely different from the U.S version which probably now dominates. I'm not going to discuss that now. I brought it up to say that the current obsession with finding or being in a monogamous 'romantic' relationship is like a sickness. Especially because I do not understand how you can be in love with someone and then some time later want/wish or  do them harm.
I don't get how women deny their children access to the father (they chose for them) and vise versa. Or than men leave their children en even focus or become fathers for their children of their new partners while they ignore their biological children.
The opposite of love is indifference. Hate is the opposite of projection or the result of a disappointed ego. If your love turns into hate, you never loved in the first place. Love can turn into disappointment or pain or anger but none of those are an automatic path to hatred. You may want to avoid or ignore an ex to protect your self. If you make hateful actions, it was not love.
The father of my daughter doesn't want anything to do with him. I understand completely. However I know why I loved him and how that felt and I wish him only happiness in his life especially with his new partner.
Even the scumbag liars who stole from me or hit me just allow me to see and understand that it was my inability to love myself, which prevented me from allowing good people to come to me. Those people have condemned themselves. The universal energetic law is cause and effect. What goes around comes around. What you do unto others will be done to you. By being aware that this is an immutable and irreversible law we can make sure that all that comes to us is fantastic.

My first Dutch language column - Liefde voor Alwareness - bound to be mistakes, forgive me!

All you need is love?
What goes around comes around. En wij kunnen door hiervan bewust te zijn ervoor zorgen dat wat naar ons toe komt fantastische is.

organic - whatever

People think that I sneer @ organic foods and often I do. I object to the fact that the certification is only available to those who have enough money to pay for it regardless (there have been far to many scams revealed) of whether their produce is actually 'organic' in terms of being ethically produced.
I was at a chicken farm where the children told me that they had to have pet chickens so that the farm could sell the eggs for more. This is according to the little charmer is because the amount of space is worked out over a % basis. So three chickens that can go all over the farm mean that all the chickens have more space and are therefore free range!
Practically speaking truly free range eggs are a pain in the backside, if you've ever been anywhere with free range chickens you have to look far, wide and in the strangest places to collect the eggs - not practical on a commercial farm.
I also object to the word organic being changed/adapted from:
1. noting or pertaining to a class of chemical compounds that formerly comprised only those existing in or derived from plants or animals, but that now includes all other compounds of carbon.
2. characteristic of, pertaining to, or derived from living organisms:
organic remains found in rocks.
to meaning 'ethically produced.
Face it torture meat and eggs (as many of my vegan friends like to call 'non organic' meat and eggs) are also organic.
So often if people ask me if the food they are eating is organic I say
"Of course. I wouldn't use anything else" by which I mean that I wouldn't eat a non carbon based life form!

More important to me than an 'organic' cerrification is ethical production or consideration. Like getting your products/produce from a local source working on a small, non or less commercial scale or even from a company.group who pay they workers a living wage.
